Centifolia / Cabbage Rose
Rosa × centifolia. These Dutch hybridized Historic Roses derive their name from the fact that the flowers often contain more than 100 petals! They are sometimes called ‘cabbage roses’ or the Provence rose or Rose de Mai. These were developed in the period between the 17th century and the 19th century, possibly earlier. It is winter hardy, superbly perfumed and is still used by the perfume industry.
